‘Broad City’ Duo Discover Yom Kippur Loophole in New Video
Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer have discovered a Yom Kippur loophole that will help any Jew whose hunger outweighs their piety in the latest installment of the duo’s Hack Into Broad City web series.
The timely clip arrives as Jews prepare their stomachs for the fast that marks the annual day of atonement, which begins tonight, September 22nd, at sundown and stretches until sundown tomorrow. The new clip finds the duo famished, mid-video chat and counting down the final four hours of Yom Kippur when they can finally break fast with their definitely non-kosher bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches.
To pass the time, Abbi and Ilana list their sins from the past year — “Very Jewish,” Ilana murmurs — which include stealing a neighbor’s magazines (Ilana), lying to tourists about directions for neurotic reasons (Abbi) and praying for a work-canceling disaster in Midtown Manhattan (Ilana). Eventually, Ilana’s hunger gets the best of her and she tricks Abbi into turning away from her computer so she can sneak bites of a granola bar and squirts of whipped cream.
“I’m not cut out for this!” she cries when Abbi catches her.
“And what, are we going to throw these away?” asks Abbi, starting to see the light, ostensibly rising from her bacon, egg and cheese. “And then we’re going to feel terrible about throwing them away and then we’re going to have to atone for that!”
“We have to eat this or else we’re going to have to fast for not eating it,” Ilana puts it, rationally — and then the pair dig in. Treif never tasted so righteous.
Glazer and Jacobson are working on the third season of Broad City, which is scheduled to return to Comedy Central in February 2016.
