Watch Fall Out Boy’s ‘Assistant’ Shadow Band in ‘Uma Thurman’ Video
Fall Out Boy have dropped the music video for their surf-rock-inspired, Munsters theme-sampling American Beauty/American Psycho track “Uma Thurman.” In the clip, we follow Sarah – who previously “won” Fall Out Boy‘s contest that allowed her to become the band’s personal assistant for a day – as she rampages through her 24 hours of duties. This includes singing karaoke with Patrick Stump, weightlifting with drummer Andy Hurley and riding mechanical bulls with Pete Wentz.
Sarah’s work concludes with an up-close backstage view of a Fall Out Boy concert. The Mel Soria and Scantron-directed video also features quick cameos by Big Sean, Action Bronson and Panic at the Disco’s Brandon Urie, but sadly no Uma Thurman. The band also makes a subtle protest when a tank destroys a pickup truck that has “Article 1 Section 36.03” on it, hinting at the Alabama supreme court’s ruling that prohibited lower-court judges in the state from issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
“The intent of the ‘Uma’ video is to deliver [a] fly-on-the-wall look into our life backstage & at home only on steroids,” Fall Out Boy tweeted. The band will perform “Uma Thurman” live on television for the first time when they take the stage at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards on May 17th from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand. The emo crew also dropped by the MTV Movie Awards to perform their “Trap Queen” collaboration with New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap.
