Watch Run the Jewels’ Psychedelic ‘Oh My Darling (Don’t Cry)’ Video
Just months after taking Rolling Stone along to the shooting of “Blockbuster Night Part 1,” bragtastic hip-hop duo Run the Jewels have returned with the second video off their critically acclaimed Run the Jewels 2 — the highest ranked rap album in Rolling Stone‘s rundown of the 50 best LPs of 2014.
The clip for “Oh My Darling (Don’t Cry)” was directed by Timothy Saccenti, who’s done similarly psych-minded videos for Animal Collective and Phantogram. A hip-hop flicker-fest full of spiraling lights, nude dancers and acid-washed warp effects, it’s the type of video that Hawkwind or Velvet Underground would make if they were contemporary beat-bullies.
The clip marks the end of a landmark year for the brash tag-team, whose righteous indignation and laser-precise anger seems more needed than ever. The outspoken Killer Mike seems to enter the political fray more and more, penning an op-ed about rap lyrics and the justice system for USA Today, spreading powerful words about the death Michael Brown via his own social media account and even delivering a tearful speech in St. Louis.
The group wound down their American tour last Sunday, and will be hitting Europe, Australia and New Zealand in the months to come.
