Watch Kimmel Trick Hillary Clinton Supporters Into Endorsing Trump
Do you “Feel the Bern”? Do you want to help “Make America Great Again”? With the U.S. in full-blown election fever, many Americans are steadfast in their support of one presidential candidate, but how well do they know their policies? Jimmy Kimmel Live! conducted an on-the-street experiment for Tuesday’s episode, grilling five random people about Hillary Clinton‘s tax proposals. The catch? It’s actually Donald Trump‘s recently announced tax plan.
“Donald Trump came out with his proposal for a new tax plan yesterday – just like a real presidential candidate would do,” Kimmel says in the intro. “It’s kind of adorable … He says he plans to raise taxes on the very rich – which doesn’t include him because he’s very, very rich. Also under President Trump: You won’t have to pay any income taxes if you make less than $25,000 a year; you won’t pay any taxes if you and your spouse make under $50,000 a year; and if you capture an illegal Mexican, you won’t pay any taxes at all, no matter how much you make.”
Armed with a microphone and Trump bullet points, the crew asks the pro-Clinton group if they’d support strategies like cutting the corporate tax rate and eliminating the alternative minimum tax. Everyone says they would. But the fun comes when the interviewer pulls the rug out from underneath.
Now embarrassed on national television, the five Clinton supporters offer a range of rebuttals – from confusion (“I would say that’s shocking. But if it is, I’m still not voting for Donald Trump. He’s a caricature”) to unexpected admiration (“I would say he’s a pretty smart man”) to unwavering animosity (“Oh, God. I hate [Trump]!”).
