Trace Adkins Moonlights on ‘The Night Shift’
Trace Adkins will return to the small screen by way of the ER this May. The singer/sometime actor has scored a role as a military veteran on the NBC medical drama, The Night Shift. According to TheWrap, Adkins will play the leader of a therapy group attended by Dr. TC Callahan, one of the show’s main characters, portrayed by actor Eoin Macken. The series, now in its second season, depicts TC dealing with PTSD while trying to maintain a relationship with Dr. Jordan Alexander, who’s played by Jill Flint.
The role is a natural for Adkins, who currently serves as a spokesman for the Wounded Warrior Project, which assists injured military veterans and their families. He’s also active with the American Red Cross and has performed seven USO tours.
The Grammy-nominated performer, who was the first-season winner of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice in 2004, has flexed his acting muscle in several feature films including The Lincoln Lawyer and Lifted, and a number of TV series, such as My Name Is Earl and Yes, Dear.
In December of last year, Adkins revealed plans to star in Roadrunner, a film about car racing, with Scott Eastwood (son of actor-director Clint). While there is currently no mention of that film on Adkins’ IMDB profile page, he is listed among the cast members for the Civil War miniseries, To Appomattox, which will also feature Dwight Yoakam, Laura Bell Bundy and the members of Rascal Flatts. The miniseries, from director Mikael Salomon (Band of Brothers) and writer Michael Frost Beckner, is currently seeking funding via Kickstarter.
The Night Shift airs Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET on NBC. Adkins’ episodes will air in early May.
