Twin Shadow Undergoes Surgery Following Tour Bus Collision
Indie-pop singer Twin Shadow – whose real name is George Lewis, Jr. – and his band were involved in a collision in Colorado on the morning of April 17th when their tour bus hit a tractor-trailer. Twin Shadow was on his way to a Denver performance at the time.
All 12 people on the tour bus, including the band and crew, were brought to two local hospitals. Lewis will be under going reconstructive hand surgery this week, while driver John Crawford and drummer Andy Bauer remain hospitalized, in serious condition. An investigation into the circumstances that caused the crash is ongoing.
The group, which was touring in support of its recently released Eclipse LP, has postponed the tour dates it had scheduled between April 21st and May 22nd. “The band and crew send a heartfelt thanks to everyone in Colorado and beyond who have helped through this difficult time,” it said in a statement.
NBC News reported that the collision, which took place on I-70 in Aurora, occurred at a time when the roadway was surrounded with fog. The crash involved three vehicles total, including one that belonged to another musical group – country duo Thompson Square – and was carrying 10 people, who were all unhurt. The drivers of the two semis involved in the collision were also unhurt.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who were injured and their families,” Thompson Square wrote on their Facebook page, reporting that damage to their bus was minimal.
Beyond the statement released today, Twin Shadow have not commented on their status.
“Given the severity and damage on scene, we consider this a lucky day for all involved,” Colorado State Patrol wrote on Thompson Square’s Facebook page. “It is a sobering reminder (including to us!) that weather is no respecter of vehicles and to always be on alert when behind the wheel!”
