New ‘Game of Thrones’ Clips Hint at Tyrion, Jon Snow Conflicts
With the fifth season of Game of Thrones premiering in less than a month, the show is offering a glimpse at a few major plot lines early. Two new, half-minute clips tease out a foreboding tension that will likely be a constant throughout the season.
In the first clip, the exiled Tyrion Lannister is chatting with his rescuer, the former royal council member and “Master of Whisperers” Varys. “You never told me why you set me free,” the booze-swilling fugitive asks, to which the bald eunuch replies, “I didn’t do it for you, I did it for the seven kingdoms…I believe men of talent have a part to play in the war to come.” And, much like winter, war is most certainly coming.
The second clip features Jon Snow discussing the fate of those who live north of the wall with Mance Rayder, the leader of the Free Folk and current prisoner of Stannis Baratheon. The Night’s Watch guardsman takes Rayder to task: “You’ve spent your life convincing 90 clans to come together for the first time in history…you didn’t do it for power, you didn’t do it for glory. Isn’t their survival more important than your pride?”
Game of Thrones will return on April 12th, the same night that Veep and Silicon Valley also return to HBO.
