Watch John Oliver Chug Bud Light Lime, Say Goodbye to Sepp Blatter
After Sepp Blatter was re-elected to a fifth term as FIFA president on May 29, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver made an impassioned plea to the organization’s sponsors to pull their support, in the hopes of bringing an end to his reign. In exchange, he’d do the unthinkable: Down a Bud Light Lime on national television and proclaim it to be (gasp!) delicious.
“Budweiser, if you pull your support and help get rid of Blatter, I will put my mouth where my mouth is and I will personally drink one of your disgusting items,” Oliver said. “I will even drink a Bud Light Lime.”
As if that wasn’t enough torture for one man to endure, Oliver also said he’d take a bite from everything on McDonald’s Dollar Menu and wear Adidas’ absurd Wings 3.0 gold shoes, which retail for an equally absurd $250.
Of course, while hoping for change, Oliver probably thought he was in the clear. Despite an international scandal that led to 14 FIFA officials being indicted on corruption charges, Blatter was adamant that he would stay in office – and he seemed to have the support necessary to do just that. But, as you know, just four days after winning re-election, Blatter shocked the soccer world by announcing he would resign as head of the sport’s governing body.
Understandably, that was cause for celebration, and Oliver was ready to break out the bubbly. Even if said bubbly tastes more like “Jolly Green Giant’s ejaculate.” So, on Sunday night’s episode, Oliver proved to be a man of his word, not only sporting those Adidas shoes and choking down everything on McDonald’s value menu, but chugging (almost) an entire bottle of Bud Light Lime.
And as if that wasn’t enough, he also vowed to take on former FIFA vice president Jack Warner – accused of churning up millions of dollars of bribes – on his home turf, answering Warner’s 7-minute rebuttal of the charges against him (which he paid to have broadcast on Trinidadian television) with a special of his own: John Oliver: The Mittens of Disapproval Are On, which (no lie) will air Tuesday at 9:01 p.m. on Trinidad’s TV 6 – preempting the first five minutes of a Mike & Molly rerun. You’re a good man, John Oliver.
