The Cadillac Three Set 2015 Tour Dates and Drop ‘Heavier’ Album Hints
The Cadillac Three are wrapping up one thing — their second studio album — and starting another: the Aviators and Radiators Tour, which has the Nashville trio playing a slew of dates from Texas to Connecticut this winter before joining up with friend Eric Church’s Outsiders World Tour.
“We’re pretty much done,” lead singer Jaren Johnston tells Rolling Stone Country, on the anticipated follow-up to 2013’s Tennessee Mojo. “We just have to figure out the right time to put it out — top of summer, I would imagine. It’s going to be awesome; we’re going to change the game a little bit. It’s going to be a little heavier.”
Like tourmate Church, the Cadillac Three are unafraid of anchoring their tracks with sheer power, courtesy of rock-based guitars and catchy, anthemic choruses that are party-friendly but not pop. Though Johnston knows what sells — he’s also a Grammy-nominated songwriter for the likes of Keith Urban and Tim McGraw — he’s also not super concerned about where the Cadillac Three fit in.
“I think we don’t,” he says, “and I think it’s great. You look at Eric — he’s always done the same thing no matter what, and the genre morphed towards him. It came to him, he didn’t chase it. I think we just keep doing what we do.”
In addition to their own their headlining dates, the band will also play sets at various festivals, such as Florida’s Tortuga Music Festival and California’s Stagecoach — leaving some time, of course, to put the finishing touches on that record.
“It’s the fire, man,” Johnston says, careful not to confess too much. “It’s just real songs, and I try to write about what nobody else is writing about at the time. It’s country music, so a lot of people say the same things, and we touched on a lot of those things but with different ways of saying them. I’m real proud of it.”
The new tracks already have a fan in Church, who’s “heard a lot of the stuff and loved it.” So did Jake Owen. “He was very excited,” Johnston divulges. “And he was like, ‘Man, if you don’t cut this song, I want it.'”
