Watch Earl Sweatshirt’s Riotous ‘Off Top’ Animated Video
As promised, Earl Sweatshirt has unveiled the music video of “Off Top,” a short, tenacious cut off the Odd Future rapper’s I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside. In the animated video, a cartoon Sweatshirt braves aggressive police, rabid dogs and random beatdowns as he journeys through a fever dream Los Angeles. The Taylor Johnson-directed video plants the violent animation atop grainy riot footage, giving the two-minute “Off Top” a layered, chaotic feel over its too-brief runtime.
“Off Top” arrives four months after I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside‘s first single for the intense “Grief.” “I’m finna drop a video soon so everyone in the #sweathive be on standby,” Sweatshirt alerted fans on August 5th. When the video dropped Friday morning, Swearshirt tweeted, “I told yall to be on standby.”
I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside‘s March arrival was the first opening act in what’s been an active year for Odd Future members: Tyler, the Creator followed a month later with his Cherry Bomb, and Odd Future associate Vince Staples released his breakout debut LP Summertime ’06 in June. Frank Ocean also hinted that his much anticipated follow-up to Channel Orange would arrive in July, but that eagerly awaited LP, tentatively titled Boys Don’t Cry, has yet to surface.
