Watch Carly Fiorina Respond to Trump’s ‘Look at That Face’ Insult
Republican presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina responded to Donald Trump‘s jab at her looks and electability in a Rolling Stone cover story, telling Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Wednesday, “I think those comments speak for themselves.”
In the Rolling Stone story, Trump saw Fiorina on TV and remarked, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?! I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
While Fiorina called Trump’s remarks “very serious,” she otherwise deflected the comments, downplaying Kelly’s question about the GOP frontrunner’s intentions.
“I have no idea,” Fiorina said. “And you know honestly, Megyn, I’m not going to spend a single cycle wondering what Donald Trump means. But maybe, just maybe, I’m getting under his skin a little bit because I am climbing in the polls.”
The remarks in Rolling Stone, however, were not the first time Trump has taunted Fiorina. Last month, he tweeted: “I just realized that if you listen to Carly Fiorina for more than 10 minutes straight, you develop a massive headache. She has zero chance!””
Trump, for his part, did damage control on Fox News Thursday morning. While he admitted, “Probably I did say something like that about Carly,” Trump clarified: “I’m talking about persona. I’m not talking about look.” The candidate then noted, “When I get criticized constantly about my hair, nobody does a story about, ‘Oh, isn’t that terrible? They criticized Donald Trump’s hair.'”
Despite his insistence that “Look at that face” was in reference to Fiorina’s “persona,” the insult aligns with Trump’s streak of sexist comments about women, which tend to focus on physical appearance. Kelly called out Trump for making such statements in interviews, on Twitter and Celebrity Apprentice during the first GOP debate in August. “Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president?” Kelly asked.
Trump, in turn, defended his record while disparaging and talking down to Kelly: “What I say is what I say. And honestly, Megyn, if you don’t like it, I’m sorry. I’ve been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be based on the way you have treated me. But I wouldn’t do that.”
