Bobby Brown Gives First Interview Since Bobbi Kristina’s Death
Bobby Brown has sat down for his first interview since the death of his and Whitney Houston’s only daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown in July. Speaking to The Real about the tragedy, the singer discussed why he kept hoping for a miracle even after doctors suggested his daughter would never recover. Brown also shared his regret that he wasn’t at Bobbi Kristina’s Atlanta area home during the events leading up to the near-fatal drowning in her bathtub, The Associated Press reports.
Although Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive on January 31st, she didn’t pass away until July 26th after spending nearly six months in a coma. It wasn’t until June, as her condition continued to deteriorate, that she was finally taken off life support and moved to a hospice center. “We prayed and hoped for six months for something better to happen,” Bobby Brown said. “But when God calls you, he calls you.”
Brown was buried alongside her mother Whitney Houston in New Jersey. “I’m pretty sure her mother was … had a part with like, ‘Come on, let’s get her up here,'” Brown told The Real while sitting next to wife Alicia Etheredge. “[Houston] was not comfortable by herself, I guess. She just called my daughter with her.”
Following Brown’s death at the age of 22, her estate filed a multi-million wrongful death lawsuit against her boyfriend Nick Gordon, alleging that “he gave Bobbi Kristina a toxic cocktail rendering her unconscious and then put her face down in a tub of cold water.” While criminal charges have not been filed against Gordon, Brown continues to question what happened at his daughter’s home on January 31st and regrets that he wasn’t there to prevent it. “If I could have been there two days before, it wouldn’t have went down like that,” Brown said.
The entirety of Brown’s interview with The Real will air Monday.
