Watch Perry Farrell Dish on Creative Process With Mario Batali in New Show
Mario Batali welcomes Jane’s Addiction frontman and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell into the kitchen in this exclusive new clip from the popular chef’s upcoming web series, Feedback Kitchen. The new Dailymotion show finds Batali clinking glasses and talking about the creative process with a number of musicians, then serving up a special dish inspired by his guest.
“Perry sees the world through such a unique and fascinating lens that is full of wonder and curiosity,” Batali tells Rolling Stone about meeting the rocker. “He is the perfect conversationalist and very appreciative of good food and wine.”
As such, the libations are plentiful when Farrell stops by. “The creative process always starts when I’m enjoying myself,” he tells Batali. “Like, I’m always partying when I start writing songs for the most part, poetry, everything flows as the wine flows.”
The pair go on to chat about collaboration and working tirelessly to finish a piece, and following a snippet of Farrell’s performance with his wife, Etty Lau, Batali takes to the kitchen, folding slices of prosciutto over veal then whacking the pockets with a hammer to fuse them together.
“We wanted to explore the creative process through the eyes of the chef versus a musician,” Batali says of the show. “We share the similarity of taking an idea and turning it into a remarkable dish or the poetry of song.”
Farrell’s full appearance on Feedback Kitchen, along with the show’s four other episodes, arrives Monday, January 26th on Dailymotion. Batali will also chat with U2 guitarist The Edge, Josh Groban, Patti Smith and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.
“[Feedback Kitchen] gave me the opportunity to sit down with some of my heroes in the music world and have a thoughtful discussion around my great passions — food and music,” Batali said. “Our series hasn’t necessarily changed the way I think about cooking, but it’s given me an enlightened perspective on the similarities that we share as creators.”
