Watch Gronk Show Off Super Bowl Bling in ‘This Is SportsCenter’ Spot
“Deflategate” could still end up costing the Patriots Tom Brady – for four games, anyway – but it can’t take away their shiny Super Bowl rings.
Two months ago, owner Robert Kraft invited all the Patriots’ players and coaches over to his mansion to celebrate their Super Bowl XLIX victory. And while Tom Brady dancing like a dad was probably the most entertaining part of the whole shindig, Craft digging deep into his pockets to present the team with the largest rings in NFL history – each encrusted with 205 diamonds, as well as their trademarked phrases “Do Your Job” and “We are all Patriots” – was the big draw.
And now, with the NFL season just around the corner, those very rings are the star of ESPN’s new “This is SportsCenter” spot, featuring Pro Bowler and author/actor Rob Gronkowski.
The 40-second spot begins with Gronk showing off his ginormous new ring – “I went and gave them my size,” he says. “A few months later, we had a ring ceremony!” – to his ESPN coworkers, who ooh and aah over its beauty and impressive size. Once he heads back to work, though, Neil Everett, Stan Verrett and Kenny Mayne take a page out of Paris Geller’s playbook by huddling up, talking shit behind his back and questioning his motives.
“Tacky! It’s too much,” Mayne chimes in as Gronk walks away. “Too much.”
Meanwhile, Marshawn Lynch is on a beach somewhere watching his friends reenact his biggest nightmare. Whether you win or lose, haters gonna hate.
