Tracy Morgan, Miley Cyrus, Amy Schumer to Host ‘SNL’
UPDATE 2: Matthew McConaughey and musical guest Adele will appear on the November 21st episode of Saturday Night Live.
UPDATE: SNL has unveiled its first three musical guests for Season 41. Miley Cyrus will play double duty as host and musical guest for the season opener. The Weeknd will join Amy Schumer on October 10th, while Demi Lovato will perform during Tracy Morgan‘s return.
Tracy Morgan will host the October 17th episode of Saturday Night Live, marking the comedian’s first appearance on the sketch show since the tragic car accident that left him in a coma for approximately two weeks and killed friend and fellow comic James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. Miley Cyrus and Amy Schumer have also been announced as hosts for Season 41, Deadline reports.
Morgan, a cast member on SNL from 1996 to 2003, previously hosted the sketch show in 2009. Cyrus, in her third hosting stint, will help launch the season on October 3rd. Schumer, fresh from her success with the film comedy Trainwreck, will make her hosting debut on October 10th. According to Deadline, musical guests will be announced at a later date.
Morgan’s SNL return marks a major step in the comedian’s comeback following the June 2014 car crash. “I can’t believe I’m here; I can’t believe I’m in front of you,” Morgan told Matt Lauer on Today in June, admitting he had no memory of the accident.
The interview, Morgan’s first since the crash, followed the settlement of his lawsuit with Walmart, whose truck caused the deadly accident on the New Jersey Turnpike. “The case is settled, but the pain is always going be there,” Morgan said of losing McNair. “Bones heal, but the loss of my friend will never heal.” Morgan explained that Wal-Mart took “full responsibility” for the accident, settling with both himself and McNair’s family. “I’m just glad my friend can rest in peace now,” he said.
