Metallica Offer Free Download of Private Concert
Continuing with their tradition of making all live concerts available to fans, Metallica is now offering a free download via LiveMetallica.com of a surprise party they played for Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff last month.
The show took place on February 9th at San Francisco’s Pier 48, and the set list was heavy on hits, including “Enter Sandman,” “Master of Puppets” and “Seek and Destroy.”
The Salesforce work party is not the band’s first partnership with the cloud computing company. According to Blabbermouth, Benioff is guitarist Kirk Hammett’s neighbor, and the band played Salesforce’s annual convention called Dreamforce in 2011. At Dreamforce, Metallica invited several hundred fan club members to attend for free.
LiveMetallica.com has been an official source for fans to purchase high quality MP3 downloads of Metallica concerts since 2004, and the band celebrated the site’s anniversary last year by issuing physical CDs and LPs of every 2014 gig they played. Most of those shows were part of their “Metallica By Request” tour where fans were responsible for each set list.
On April 18th, the band will kick off a huge reissue project with the release of their 1982 demo tape No Life ‘Til Leather as a limited-edition cassette tape. An expanded CD version will be available this summer. “It’s time for us to put out some next-level reissues and do the song and dance of the catalog that everyone else has done,” drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone. “Instead of starting with Kill ‘Em All in 1983, we figured we’d go back another two years to when the band was formed in 1981.”
Ulrich also teased new music from the band. “We are fucking in it,” he told RS. “We’ve got lots of songs, and we’re honing them and tweaking them. It’s pretty close.” Their upcoming album will be their first since 2008’s Death Magnetic.
