Injured Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon Perform Piano Duet on ‘Tonight’
Chevy Chase offered Jimmy Fallon a literal hand on The Tonight Show Wednesday night when the two former Saturday Night Live cast members — both nursing mangled limbs — performed a charmingly sloppy rendition of the classic piano duet, “Heart and Soul.”
Fallon, back after nearly tearing off his finger, was digging through the Tonight Show suggestion box and reluctantly declined one fan’s request for a song, unless he could get some help. Chase, luckily, arrived, and though his arm was in a sling, he was game to play left to Fallon’s right.
“Listen, I heard you say that. I love music. I think I can help you out, Johnny,” Chase cracked.
Before the pair could sit down at the piano, though, the misunderstandings continued. When Fallon asked how he hurt his arm, Chase casually copped to whacking off to old episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Fallon quickly shushed and reminded him that younger kids might be watching.
“Oh I didn’t see any,” Chase apologized. “I meant to say Ariana Grande videos.” Fallon again frantically waved off the remark and Chase, still not completely getting it, managed to innocently slip in one more masturbation joke for good measure.
Finally, the pair donned an oversized tuxedo jacket and teetered over to a piano where they plunked out “Heart and Soul.” After successfully making it through the duet’s most well-known section, Questlove joined in with a simple drum beat and the pair allowed themselves to get a little messy, as Fallon took an egregious run on the keys and Chase mashed a few notes with his hobbled hand.
