Hear Slaughterhouse’s Knockout ‘Southpaw’ Track ‘R.N.S.’
The Eminem-curated Southpaw soundtrack doesn’t hit shelves until July 24th, but on Friday, Slaughterhouse let loose “R.N.S.,” another track off the Shady-fueled compilation for the boxing flick. Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden and Crooked I – but no Royce da 5’9″ – reteam on this blistering Just Blaze and AraabMuzik co-production which opens with a Ice Cube reference before delivering a string of knockout verses.
Ortiz opens things up rapping about “real nigga shit, R.N.S.” over a fierce metal riff before handing the baton to Budden, who shares an anecdote about an incident at a Jersey City dock. However, it’s Crooked I that stands out with a killer verse about facing a murder plot in his native Long Beach, California. “Told me he heard some niggas was plottin’/ To come up to my spot and leave me shot and bleedin’ probably from a problem from the past,” Crooked I raps. “Get that Kevlar and guard your chest / Stand your ground but watch your step, my nigga, that’s R.N.S.”
AraabMuzik previously teamed up with Slaughterhouse for their Welcome to: Our House cut “Hammer Dance” as well as the group’s 2014 mixtape House Rules. Just Blaze worked with Slaughterhouse on “Psychopath Killer” featuring Eminem and Yelawolf off the Shady XV compilation.
In addition to “R.N.S.” and a pair of new Eminem songs (“Phenomenal” and “Kings Never Die” featuring Gwen Stefani), the Southpaw soundtrack will also feature new tracks by 50 Cent, Bad Meets Evil and Action Bronson with Joey Bada$$ alongside previously released songs by the Notorious B.I.G. and the Weeknd. The film’s composer James Horner, who passed away in June in a single-engine plane crash, bookends the Southpaw soundtrack with his two-part “Cry for Love.”
