Brad Paisley Leaks New Song to Outer Space
Brad Paisley has taken his song leaks to new heights: 220 miles above the surface of Earth, to be exact.
The country superstar has spent the last three weeks releasing tracks from his upcoming album, Moonshine in the Trunk, via Twitter, also posting texts and emails from industry powers-that-be asking him to stop. He’s even recruited celebrity friends to help leak new music early, including Carrie Underwood, Ludacris, Joan Rivers and wife Kimberly Williams Paisley. Thus, #leakingmoonshine has become a trending topic on Twitter, with fans eagerly awaiting the next track.
Paisley did take to Twitter once again to release “American Flag on the Moon,” but this time standing on pretty incredible ground in Florida: Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Pad 39B, which is just steps away from where Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin boarded Apollo 11 to become the first men on the moon. It was a fitting place to leak this particular track, as its lyrics encourage to “believe in impossible things.”
“My 5-year-old [son] walked out on the porch one night… he’d heard about the lunar landing and he was standing there looking at the moon for the longest time and said, ‘I think I can see the flag,’ which cracked me up but resonated metaphorically with the hopeful viewpoint of a five year old,” Paisley recalls of the inspiration behind “American Flag on the Moon.” “It reminded me of how far we’ve come as a country and what we can accomplish when we set a goal.”
The song was sent via a tweet to astronaut Reid Wiseman, who is currently orbiting the earth on the International Space Station.
“Hold on @BradPaisley, we don’t usually like leaks at the launch pad,” Reid tweeted back, along with a photo of his aerial view of Florida.
“Thanks for the amazing view,” the country star replied. “Hope you love the song!”
Reid tweeted back within just a few minutes that he did indeed love listening to the song on the International Space Station.
Paisley’s Moonshine in the Trunk — featuring “American Flag on the Moon” and several other songs we already know by heart — hits stores August 25th.
