Mariah Carey to Sing Number Ones at First Las Vegas Residency
Mariah Carey will perform her first-ever Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace beginning in May, the singer announced during a momentarily misty-eyed appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres show.
“It’s a new chapter for me and I’m just excited about it,” the singer said, explaining that the show was inspired in part by her hits compilation, #1’s, which is set to be updated with all 18 of her chart-toppers this year. It will also include new music, according to the Caesars Palace website. Carey also took part in a fun bit where she dressed up as a housekeeper and surprised a handful of fans at Caesars Palace with free tickets to her show, a gift she also gave out to Ellen‘s audience.
Tickets are on sale now for “Mariah Carey‘s #1’s” via Caesars Palace. Her residency officially starts on Wednesday, May 6th, with shows scheduled for Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays throughout May; Carey will return for a run in July that starts on the 8th and wraps up on the 26th.
Although the show will center around Carey’s unprecedented 18 Billboard Hot 100 number ones — the most for any solo artist in history — the Caesars Palace website says she will also perform “fan-favorite album cuts, never-before-performed selections and many more musical surprises.”
As Billboard reports, the announcement of Carey’s residency follows reports that Celine Dion would not be returning Caesars Palace this March so that she could continue to take care of her ill husband, Rene Angelil.
