Watch Ben Stiller Flex Beastie Boys Knowledge on ‘Seth Meyers’
Ben Stiller had the opportunity to show off his Beastie Boys fanboy status on Late Night With Seth Meyers when the host tested the actor’s knowledge of the iconic rap group’s lyrics.
Meyers noted that Stiller, who stars in Noah Baumbach’s upcoming film While We’re Young with Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, can be seen rapping along to every lyric in the group’s 2006 concert film Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That!. “I was definitely in it,” commented Stiller during the segment.
The host then gave Stiller select lines from the hip-hop trio’s memorable catalog and asked the actor to complete the couplet. The While We’re Young star succeeded in remembering lines from “Root Down,” “Sure Shot,” “So What’cha Want” and “Shake Your Rump.”
While We’re Young is not the first time Stiller has crossed paths with Ad-Rock. Before Beastie Boys blew up, Horovitz had been an aspiring actor, with the pair running into each other at auditions. In 2008, Stiller joined the iconic group onstage for a Rock the Vote tour, as he and Horovitz swapped places — wearing the same clothes — so Stiller could rap a verse from “Root Down.” “I’m a huge Beastie Boys fan, so doing that, for me, was beyond anything,” revealed the actor.
While We’re Young, in theaters March 27th, is Stiller’s second film with Baumbach after 2010’s Greenberg. Horovitz plays Stiller’s best friend about an aging couple trying to stay cool alongside their much younger neighbors.
