Replacements Ready Career-Spanning Eight-Disc Box Set
The Replacements will embark on their Back By Unpopular Demand tour on April 9th, and a week after Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson hit the road, Rhino will reissue the influential band’s entire officially released catalog as the eight-disc box set The Complete Studio Albums 1981-1990 on April 14th. The collection will include the ‘Mats’ seven LPs and one EP.
The box set will sport the same remastered sound on Rhino’s 2008 deluxe reissuing of the Replacements‘ discography. The Complete Studio Albums 1981-1990 will include 1981’s Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash, 1982’s Stink EP, 1983’s Hootenanny, the band’s classic duo of 1984’s Let It Be and 1985’s Tim, 1987’s Pleased to Meet Me, 1989’s Don’t Tell a Soul and their final LP, 1990’s All Shook Down.
The Replacements’ now-14-date trek (the band added another non-Coachella Los Angeles show since the initial tour announcement) will kick off April 9th at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre. While the band will be in the L.A. area during Coachella is, they said in a press release, “the ‘Mats are eschewing festival stages for the more intimate vibes of clubs and theaters throughout the United States.”
Check out the Replacements’ edited version of the press release below, where the band jokes that “Rhino will profit from” the The Complete Studio Albums box set, repairs Rhino’s grammar and knocks the label for not mentioning the band’s latter-day guitarist Slim Dunlap, whose severe stroke in 2012 was the catalyst for the Replacements’ reunion.
