Hear Ellie Goulding’s Sensual ’50 Shades of Grey’ Anthem
Ellie Goulding has shared the Max Martin–produced power ballad “Love Me Like You Do,” her original song written for the 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack – and the results are grandiose, considering the film’s sensual subject matter. “You’re the light, you’re the night/You’re the color of my blood,” she sings over massive synths and crushing drums. “You’re the cure, you’re the pain/You’re the only thing I wanna touch.”
Although the full tracklist hasn’t been revealed yet, the soundtrack also features the Weeknd‘s seductive waltz “Earned It” and a new version of Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love.” 50 Shades of Grey opens February 13th.
Goulding’s last all-new studio album, Halcyon, was released in 2012 – followed by the 2013 reissue Halcyon Days, which featured several new tracks (including her first U.K. Number One hit, “Burn”). Last year, she contributed the song “Beating Heart” to the Divergent soundtrack and made a vocal cameo on the Calvin Harris single “Outside.”
In a November interview with Capital FM, Goulding reported that she recorded vocals for Drake’s upcoming album, Views From the 6. “Obviously, he’s sampled me on one of his songs before,” she said, “and I’ve done some stuff for him for his new album potentially.”
The singer has also started work on her third LP, which is expected to hit shelves in 2015. Although Goulding hasn’t detailed the album thus far in interviews, she did explain her creative headspace to Rolling Stone in 2013.
“The mindset I’m in the moment is, I don’t necessarily see myself writing about relationships again or my personal life,” she said. “It’s not something that’s my priority anymore, and it’s weird when that happens, because I’ve forever written about my personal life and forever written about relationships.” She also noted plans to “experiment” by working with a variety of collaborators, including Greg Kurstin and Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett.
