Watch Chrissie Hynde and Brandon Flowers Perform Pretenders Song
Chrissie Hynde made a surprise appearance during the encore of Brandon Flowers‘ concert Thursday night in London, joining the Killers singer on a pair of tracks. First, Hynde and Flowers performed a rendition of Pretenders‘ “Don’t Get Me Wrong,” a track off the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band’s 1986 LP Get Close. Hynde also remained alongside Flowers for “Between Me and You,” a duet from his new Eighties-charged solo album The Desired Effect.
Following the unexpected collaboration at the O2 Brixton venue, Flowers tweeted a photo of him and Hynde with the caption, “This happened…you were great tonight London. Muchas Gracias.” According to NME, The Desired Effect producer Ariel Rechtshaid and members of Haim – guitarist Danielle Haim plays drums on Flowers’ “Lonely Town” – were also in attendance for the concert.
“I’m not even going to lie – this record, man, it’s relentless,” Flowers told Rolling Stone in the weeks prior to The Desired Effect‘s release. “I’m not afraid to say it. I see the checkered flag in front of me, and I’m starting to get excited.” After admitting that he restrained himself on his debut solo album Flamingo in 2010, Flowers says of his latest release, “I’m not holding back on this record. I just want to write the best thing I can and put it out right now.”
Flowers’ European trek will continue through early June; after that, he’ll briefly reunite with the Killers for a pair of U.S. dates before embarking on a North American solo tour in July.
