Sid Meier’s Pirates Brings Buccaneer Antics to iPad
A new version of classic computer and console video game Sid Meier’s Pirates!, which promises a a swashbuckling mix of ship-to-ship combat, swordplay and high-seas adventure, has washed ashore on the iPad.
Downloadable for $6.99 from Apple’s App Store, or $3.99 if purchased before July 25, the iPad application lets you play a corsair sailing the seas of the 17th Century Caribbean. Enhanced to support the tablet PC’s touchscreen controls and high-resolution display, the historical simulation remains accessible to players of all skill levels.
Offering open-ended gameplay that lets you plunder merchant ships, follow treasure maps to hidden caches of gold and strategically monopolize exotic trade routes at whim, the title also promises an overarching storyline. Designed for play in 15-minute spurts, this lasting tale offers the chance to work towards rescuing your family from the Marquis de la Montalban, should you be inclined towards more marathon sessions.
Featuring mini-games including swordfighting, dancing and ship combat, players can “piratize” photos to display on their ships as well. Support for Apple’s Game Center multiplayer service is additionally included.
