Roger Ebert Movie Review App Arrives on iTunes, iOS
Legendary film critic Roger Ebert is getting his own iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch app. Dubbed Great Movies, and selling for $0.99 on iTunes, the application offers over 300 classic and contemporary movie reviews from “Alien” to “Gone With the Wind.”
While listings, based on Ebert’s popular Great Movies book series, are naturally light on recent attractions and popcorn fare, those searching for information on history’s greatest films may find the software program’s database of interest. Searching it, you’ll find still images and info on many of the world’s best motion pictures, including details on cast, director and release date.
Options are also offered to create your own lists of films you’d like to watch or those you’ve ticked off the bucket list already. The app additionally offers links to instantly add motion pictures to your Netflix queue or buy them new or used right off Amazon, as well as share reviews via Facebook, Twitter and email. More updates and reviews are promised as Ebert adds to the collection.
Although not known for his progressiveness, Ebert’s foray into the digital world may help introduce the popular journalist’s work to a new generation of film buffs and academics. If nothing else, at least it should provide a few quick helpful off the cuff suggestions the next time you’re stuck coming up with something to watch on date night.
