News Roundup: Jay-Z and Kanye Wear Custom Givenchy On Tour, Gwen Stefani’s Kids’ Line Hits Target
• While his “Occupy All Streets” shirt for Rocawear raises a few eyebrows, at least Jay-Z doesn’t have to make explanations for his own current wardrobe: like Watch The Throne tourmate Kanye West, he’s unapologetically drenched in Givenchy and loving it. Designer Riccardo Tisci, who masterminded the duo’s joint album artwork, created a custom range of luxe black and gold streetwear for the rappers to wear onstage.
• Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers x Target collaboration finally hits stores Sunday. Called “Harajuku Mini” it encompasses cute and colorful clothing and accessories for kids, ranging in price from $3.99 to $29.99. Watch the “super kawaii” commercial for the collaboration:
• Today, Jean Paul Goude, the pioneering photographer who shot some of Grace Jones’ most iconic photos in the 80s, opens the first Paris show of his 40 year career. Entitled “Goudemalion,” the exhibition prominently features portraits of Jones – whom he considered his muse – along with famous shots of designer Azzedine Alaia.
• In other musical photography news, Hedi Slimane’s much-anticipated “California Song” also opens today. It focuses on a series of portraits of iconoclastic Girls frontman Christopher Owen, while the opening event features a performance from fellow Californians No Age. Back in August, we examined the impact of his recent infamous Frances Bean Cobain shoot on fashion industry.
• Jeremy Scott, who dressed (and escorted) Katy Perry to the EMAs, is the designer who arguably shares the strongest alliance with pop universe. Scott announced the latest additions to his ongoing capsule line with Adidas, and you can be sure these looks will be popping up in a music video sooner than later. Nothing for Fall 2011 is quite as zany as last year’s Teddy Bear sneakers (popularized by Lil’ Wayne), but there’s still quite an eyeful to behold. Check out photos here.
