New Hall Of Fame Inductee Darlene Love Belts Out “River Deep – Mountain High’ On ‘Tonight Show’
In a little over a week Darlene Love will have one of the biggest nights of her career when she’s inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Last night Love stopped by The Tonight Show to perform a powerful version of the 1966 Phil Spector masterpiece “River Deep – Mountain High.” Tina Turner sang the original, but Love sang many of Spector’s most famous works – including “He’s A Rebel” and “Today I Met The Boy I’m Gonna Marry.” Love’s version of “River Deep – Mountain High” appears on her new live album The Concert Of Love.
Love has had an interesting career. In addition to her incredible run of early-Sixties hits, she has appeared in exactly four movies: Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2, Lethal Weapon 3 and, of course, Lethal Weapon 4. She played Trish Murtagh, the wife of Danny Glover’s character. We when the news came out that she was being inducted into the Hall of Fame we chatted with her, and took the opporunity to ask her about the possibility of Lethal Weapon 5.
“We’re getting kind of old,” she said. “I always laugh about that. I say, ‘Well y’all better hurry up if you’re going to do a fifth. Ya’ll better hurry up because your grandchildren are going to be older than you.'”
Unlike some in Hollywood, she’d have no trouble working with Mel Gibson again. “Everybody has their problems,” she said. “Everybody has situations that happen to them in their lives. And you know I think that’s something else that just happened. Life has a way of, you know, throwing you curves. That was one of his curves. I’m sure he’s had more than that, but this is one of them.”
