Top Toy: Wirelessly Upload Photos Instantly to Smartphone, Tablet PC
Automatically wirelessly uploading photos from a digital camera to PC has always been a forte of the WiFi-enabled Eye-Fi memory card. Now, the new 8GB Eye-Fi Mobile X2 ($79.99) will also provide shutterbugs with instant copy functions for immediate transfer to mobile devices, including smartphones and tablet PCs.
These so-called Direct Mode features, which beam pictures to mobile devices via a direct wireless connection, are additionally being offered as a free upgrade for new and existing Eye-Fi X2 cards. Accompanying iOS and Android apps can now be downloaded, as well. Using these functions, it’s possible to quickly back up, edit and share vacation photos or images from your latest nationwide tour online in a matter of just minutes. Photographers also gain the benefit of being able to do so without having to manually connect or transfer files between each device.
“Direct Mode helps us bridge the gap between classic digital imaging and the exploding world of mobile devices,” said Jef Holove, CEO of Eye-Fi. “With Direct Mode and our new Android and iOS apps, the pervasive connectivity of mobile is made available to existing cameras.”
