‘American Idol’ Gets Its Own Clothing Line
Designer Tommy Hilfiger’s role as image consultant to American Idol is proving a dynamic influence: not only do we get better-dressed contestants, but audiences will soon be able to emulate their favorite looks when the first-ever clothing line themed around the reality show hits Kohl’s stores nationwide next month. The line, Authentic Icon (AI), debuts at retail and on television in April and features separates for young men and women. Performers will wear various looks as the season progresses, with the highlights being available to purchase just in time for summer.
“It was a natural extension to partner on a line of American Idol-inspired apparel that captures the essence of our rich music, style and performance heritage,” David Luner of FreemantleMedia Enterprises (who produce the show) said in a statement.
So far, the clothes seem to revolve around denim, vests, modified concert tees and rocker-oriented accessories, as well as some Gwen Stefani-esque Beetlejuice pants. The collection will be on sale through June.
