Drama Permeates ‘The Americans’ Trailer
2013 was an incredible year for television, what with its New Orleans witches, bloody swords and, of course, Russian spies. Yes, The Americans and their Cold War-era sex and treachery kept us glued to FX from January to May. Now, with trailers for Season Two circling the web, we’re oficially counting down to February’s premiere. In the teaser above, attentive viewers can hear an unidentified person entering a room, dialing a phone number and saying, “I didn’t tell them anything,” while a camera pans across a closet to reveal Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth (Keri Russell) hiding amid the clothes.
From Coed to Comrade: Keri Russell on The Americans‘ First Season
The Americans follows two Russian spies (Rhys and Russell) in deep cover as a married couple in 1981 Washington, D.C. Earlier this year, the stars and their producers held court at New York’s Paley Center for Media to discuss what’s ahead. “We’ve only read one [script],” Russell told Rolling Stone‘s Sarene Leeds, “but. . . as Paige [the Jennings’ American-born teenage daughter] gets older, she could be a serious threat for everyone’s safety.” Considering that the camera caught Paige snooping around her parents’ basement last season, Russell’s hints sound right on the mark.
