Top Toy: Portable DJ Controller for iPhone and iPad
The iPhone, iPod and iPad are home to many virtual DJ apps, but now they’re also playing host to a full-size handheld turntable controller.
Numark’s iDJ Live will be compatible with algoriddim’s djay app for mobile devices, and allow aspiring mixmasters to mash-up, scratch and remix tracks on-demand, providing smartphone and tablet PC owners with a portable production studio.
Digital music for manipulation can be accessed straight from your iTunes collection, letting you tap your existing library of favorite tracks or downloadable songs for inspiration. In addition to two spinning platters, a crossfader and volume controllers, an array of knobs, buttons and dials will let users add looping, layering, samples and special effects.
While instantly eye-catching and seemingly readily capable of coaxing catchy rhythms out of iOS gadgets, it’ll of course take considerable skill to produce anything more than incoherent screeches.
Retailing for $100, plus $0.99 or $19.99 for the app on iPhone or iPad respectively though, even amateurs should be able to afford it and still have money left over for chunky headphones and glowsticks.
