Audio Aesthetics: RZA x WeSC Headphones
Musicians dabbling in design has facilitated new opportunities for performers to eschew the clothing concept and bring it back to audio aesthetics. Designer headphones have stormed into popularity, with Dr. Dre’s buzzed-about Beats by Dre series leading the pack. Audiophiles have begrudgingly awarded them a stamp of approval, claiming they perform as well as they look — even with splashier models from Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber not tainting this consensus. That may change, however: later this month, the star-christened audio market welcomes a new serious contender, as formidable rap legend RZA introduces a new series of customized headphones called “Chambers” with elite audio brand WeSC.
As one of hip-hop’s most revered MCs and producers, he’s certainly qualified to offer his own unique branded audio experience. His “Chambers” capsule collection of headphones, out August 26th, will feature “a DJ grade” set, as well as a street version boasting BPM-sensitive LED lights. Quite literally, you will glow to the beat.
For the Wu-Tan Clan ring leader, the time for collaborative experimentation is ripe. Aside from propelling the track “New Day,” produced for Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch The Thone as well as “Dark Fantasy” on West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he’s also starring in Russell Crowe’s kung-fu flick, The Man With The Iron Fists and brings the highlights on Wu-Tang’s recent effort, Legendary Weapons.
To build hype, a series of promo videos have appeared on WeSc website, showcasing RZA in various creative situations. In this clip, RZA strums guitar in an artsy black and white scene:
