Fashion’s Night Out Highlights 2012
Last night, dozens of artists performed, DJed, or made cameos at retailers all over New York City, on the metropolis’s biggest commercial fest of the year, Fashion’s Night Out. Azealia Banks made Soho’s MAC store come alive with an electrifying performance that drew hundreds of fans.St. Vincent’s art rock shone at Rag & Bone’s speak-easy themed event. Chairlift performed a dreamy set at the imperious Prada store only blocks away. As anyone present can attest, Soho transformed into a makeshift momentary spinoff of SXSW: an uneasy but entertaining state in which to navigate the usually placid, prim area.
Uptown at Manolo Blahnik, Cyndi Lauper serenaded fans with selections from her new musical Kinky Boots (you can also catch her Tuesday evening at Betsey Johnson’s Spring 2013 show). Some musicians were out to promote new endeavors: Pharrell appeared at Bloomingdales to support his new clothing line, The Bee Line, while Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. DJed a set a few rooms away. Bryan Adams, a fixture at Calvin Klein’s fêtes, paid the designer his seasonal visit (on the arm of Gabrielle Union, no less). And over at the Westway, Three6Mafia performed a full-blown concert for Supreme’s tricked-out Fashion’s Night Out bash.
