Designer Playlist: Christian Joy
It’s not a surprise that designer Christian Joy’s taste in music is as unmistakably individualistic as the clothing and art she created; everyone from electronic pioneer Bruce Haack to Buzzcocks’ vanguard Pete Shelley to a myriad of exploratory upstarts factor into her Rolling Stone playlist this week. She keeps true to her local roots, too, representing the experimental front of Brooklyn talent via selections from Light Asylum, Bubbles and Japanther, while keeping an ear out for global innovation (see: Mexico’s DJ Matalascallando and Japan’s Trippple Nippples). These are deep cuts, deeper than your usual streaming service can offer, so we did a little virtual crate-digging alongside the designer, offering links for your listening enjoyment below. What can we say? These tracks are, in fact, a true “joy” to behold.
Bruce Haack – African Lullaby
Bubbles – Hallnoats
Sweet – Ballroom Blitz
Pete Shelley – Homosapien
Light Asylum – A Certain Person
Japanther – Radical Businessman
