Pharrell Announces Clothing Line for Women, Limited Edition Shoe Collection
Hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams has announced plans to start a new division of his clothing line, Billionaire Boys Club, which recently partnered with Jay-Z’s clothing label, Rocawear. Billionaire Girls Club will offer a full range of women’s clothing and is expected to launch in Spring 2013, Williams told WWD.
Williams’ expansionist plans don’t stop there. He also is collaborating on a special edition shoe collection with New York designer Mark McNairy – those will be available much sooner, in February 2012. Additionally, he’s working with Ambra Medda, the director of Design Miami on a new book called “Places & Spaces I’ve Been.” No release date has yet been announced.
As can be witnessed through his recent work with Palladium on the documentary Tokyo Rising, wherein Williams interviews young designers, artists, and other Tokyo creatives ravaged by the monumental earthquake that shook Japan earlier this year, he harbors a deep appreciation for the innovator’s spirit. Williams also acknowledges his admiration of established design vanguards, telling WWD, “Every Comme des Garçons show is just perfection and [Lanvin designer] Alber Elbaz is a genius, too. So is Marc Jacobs. I am so inspired by each one of them. They are totally imaginative. I wish to be that way one day.”
