Steven Tyler Fronts Launch Of Hilfiger Family’s Latest Clothing Line
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler’s imprint is subconsciously all over men’s fashion – anything overtly fringe, leopard-printed, or python bears an unavoidable connection to his trademark louche glam. Now he’s made his style ambassador status official as the muse/spokesperson for Andrew Charles, Andy Hilfiger’s new rock & roll clothing line, which just launched at Macy’s. As Rolling Stone reported in August, the look of the new menswear collection and accessories line, Rock Scarf, is inspired by Tyler’s more bohemian moments, as well as emphasizing his love of leather, and of course, colorful neckwear. There’s also plenty of imaginative denim, as a brief glance at the collection reveals.
At the Macy’s shopping launch of the event, Tyler told WWD he was thrilled fans could now buy into the “freak style” he wears onstage and that he’s “honored” to be a new member of the extended Hilfiger family. He also convinced his younger daughter, 22-year-old Chelsea, to model the Andrew Charles lookbook with him. With a similar ropey physique and boho appeal as her father, she easily embodies the essence of the womenswear collection, which was inspired by the modern gypsy spirit Anita Pallenberg and fellow scarf fiend Stevie Nicks represent to Sixties and Seventies devotees.
As for as the marriage between Tyler’s personal style and his day job as a musician, he told Fashionista, “I’ve just got more female energy. I like that flowing and nurturing and I’m a songwriter, so I’m into form and fashion and how it all goes together. Always have been, so it’s just perfect.”
