Can ‘Breaking Bad’ Sweep the SAG Awards?
12 Years a Slave and Breaking Bad are both strong contenders among this year’s nominees for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The industry group announced their picks today for an awards show scheduled for on January 18th, 2014.
Why 12 Years a Slave Is Best Picture Bait
12 Years a Slave racked up the most nods in the theatrical motion pictures category. In addition to the top award of outstanding performance by a cast, Chiwetel Ejiofor received the lead male actor nomination for his portrayal of a man who is kidnapped and sold into slavery while Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o were nominated for their supporting roles.
August: Osage County, Dallas Buyers Club and Lee Daniels’ The Butler came in close behind with three nominations each, while American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Nebraska and Rush each recieved two.

Breaking Bad dominated in the television drama categories, with Bryan Cranston recognized for his portrayal of chemistry teacher-turned meth lord Walter White and Anna Gunn for her role as Skyler White, along with awards for outstanding ensemble acting and stunt performances.
Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and Homeland also put in a good showing, with three nominations each. (Downton Abbey received two.) For TV movies or miniseries, Michael Douglas and Matt Damon were both nominated for their roles in the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, while Al Pacino and Helen Mirren both got nods for their work on Phil Spector.

30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family led the comedy realm with three nominations apeice. With his nods for outstanding male actor in a comedy series and comedy ensemble for 30 Rock adding to his collection, Alec Baldwin currently holds the record for male actor nominations. (With eight wins, he also holds the record for the most male actor awards.)
