‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Kristian Nairn Comes Out as Gay
Actor Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor on Game of Thrones, came out as gay in a recent interview with WinterIsComing.net, a fan site for the show. “When you talk about ‘the gay community,’ you are talking about my community,” he said, later adding, “I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone, my whole life in fact, and I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, ’cause it’s not something you just blurt out. I’ve tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail.”

The actor said that it is important to “stand up and be counted.” “I have and always will stand my ground,” he said. “So, yeah, people have been great, on the show, but I don’t see why it would be an issue.”
After the story began circulating online, Nairn commented on Twitter that he thought people already knew that he was gay and that he had always assumed it was no big deal. “If it makes even one person in the world feel a little better, then it’s worth it,” he wrote, punctuating the tweet with a heart.
As one of the actors whose character survived the series’ bloody third season, he will return as Hodor next month. The fourth season premieres on HBO on April 6th, though fans in the New York metro area will get to see the show early at a special screening at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on March 20th.
In a 15-minute trailer released last month, executive producer, writer and director David Benioff said, “Some of the most shocking and mind-blowing scenes of the entire series come at the end of this season. There are some very bloody confrontations.”
