Cricket Includes Unlimited Music Downloads for Android Phone
Starting September 2nd, every Cricket Android smartphone will automatically come equipped with the Muve Music service and unlimited downloads of songs and ringtones. The move aligns with Cricket’s vision that unlimited music will soon become just as common a feature in wireless plans as unlimited talk and unlimited text.
“Including unlimited music in all of Cricket’s Android rate plans is a global industry first,” Muve’s senior VP Jeff Toig said in a statement. “We are breaking new ground in the wireless industry and digital music space.”
To compensate for the unlimited downloads, Cricket rate plans are now $5 more and start at $50 a month. Muve Music downloads do not require a separate subscription plan or syncing to any device other than the Android smartphone. In addition to unlimited downloads, Muve subscribers can use Shazam to recognize songs, create customized playlists and share songs and albums with friends.
A year after its initial launch, Muve counts 600,000 subscribers and is considered one of the fastest growing mobile music services in the country. The mobile music service has secured licensing deals from Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Music. In the last six months alone, they doubled their catalog offerings to 10 million songs.
