News Round-Up: Ke$ha Announces Watch Line, Rihanna Models for Armani Jeans and More
Paris Fashion Week wrapped up yesterday, meaning the Spring 2012 season has officially finished its four week cycle. In those final few days, musical folk popped up in the front rows and at the post-collection soirees. But, of course, the moving and shaking didn’t stop at Paris. Here’s the latest:
• Ke$ha is releasing a line of watches with Casio. The brand, a favorite with the musical set for both its keyboards and tech-sporty wristbands (the vintage variety are an eBay hit these days), have hired the singer, famous for her glittershock appeal, to guest design two timepieces for their Baby-G collection. One model sports a patriotic motif (to represent “freedom”); the other boasts a leopard print (to signify her feral feline style). The styles can be purchased now; meanwhile, the singer tells People that more design endeavors are in the works. “I’m definitely plotting my next design moves,” she says. “Stay tuned! Look for animal-friendly organic jewelry and fake fur.” You can bet your K-Money on it.
• Armani Jeans just launched their Fall 2011 video campaign starring Rihanna. A work of “modern film noir,” the clip features the singer in a blonde pixie cut as she creates mischief with an attractive male sidekick in New York City. The soundtrack? Her own sultry slowburner, “Skin.” Watch it here:
• Paco Rabanne’s show Tuesday got people talking about Lady Gaga, again. With designer Manish Arora’s sci-fi, slippery vision for the newly reinstated label (originally famous in the 1960s for its space-age designs), will the label be the singer’s new Thierry Mugler? Nicola Formichetti probably isn’t too fearful of losing his muse just yet; when it comes to Gaga’s wardrobe, the more alien, the merrier.
• The Metro UK just did a piece on the “robust” link between fashion and musical performance, noting how it’s now a requirement for a designer and an artist to team up collaboratively, something Todd Lynn consideres a mixed blessing, as per his Rolling Stone profile yesterday.
• Kanye West, whose debut collection, Dw, nosedived with critics, is feeling a bit cagey this Paris Fashion Week. In retaliation for not being hailed “the greatest in the game” for once, he used his afterparty this weekend to unleash some bracing words for the haters, while also begging for tolerance for his novice status. “This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow,” he allegedly yelled at partygoers Saturday night. “This is not some celebrity shit. I don’t fuck with celebrities. I fuck with the creatives in this room, the amazing people who spend every day of their life trying to make the world a more beautiful place.”
