Feist and Mastodon Drop Interactive Video for ‘A Commotion’
One of the most sought-after and bizarre special releases from this year’s Record Store Day was a split seven-inch from two unlikely artists: singer-songwriter Feist and metal heroes Mastodon.
The “Feistodon” split (as it’s been dubbed) featured Feist covering Masodon’s “Black Tongue” and Mastodon covering Feist’s “A Commotion.” Now both tracks are available digitally.
In addition to the digital release, an interactive video has been put together for “A Commotion” that shows Feist in full destructive mode and lets users slide a cross-fader back and forth between the original and the Mastodon cover. We recommend letting that knob sit right in the middle: it makes for quite a unique duet.
Back in April, Feist spoke with Rolling Stone about the split, saying, “It’s a wet dream to have Mastodon take one of my songs and put it into their massive machine.”
“We didn’t tell her what to do, and she didn’t tell us what to do,” added Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher about how each artist chose which song to cover. “‘A Commotion’ just kind of stuck out to me. I could hear the opening riff, a single A-note.”
