Replacements Round Out Lineup With Westerberg Collaborators
The Replacements will perform with a pair of Paul Westerberg’s former solo collaborators when the band plays in public for the first time in 22 years next weekend in Toronto. Drummer Josh Freese and guitarist Dave Minehan will join Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson onstage, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Freese and Minehan, guitarist for Boston band the Neighborhoods, backed Westerberg on solo tours in the Nineties, and Freese and Stinson played together in one of the latter-day Guns N’ Roses lineups. The drummer has also played with Nine Inch Nails and Devo, among others.
Tommy Stinson Credits Replacements Reunion to ‘Aligning of the Planets’
Westerberg and Stinson in June announced they would reunite as the Replacements for a trio of Riot Fest shows starting August 25th in Toronto and continuing September 15th in Chicago and September 21st in Denver. And after that?
“There are no plans right now besides those three shows,” Darren Hill, Westerberg’s manager, said.
The live reunion stems from Westerberg and Stinson getting together last year to record Songs for Slim, an EP of covers to help raise money to pay medical costs for former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap, who suffered a massive stroke in February 2012.
