Volto Light Up With ‘Incitare’ – Album Premiere
Tool drummer Danny Carey has been playing with John Ziegler and Lance Morrison for years, rocking out over sprawling, expansive tracks as Volto. The band started out as a purely fun project to play some covers at a jazz club, but has grown over the years into its own beast. Volto are ready with their new album Incitare, and the nine-track effort feels just as free-flowing as the jam fusion band’s easy-going roots.

Opener “Grip It” kicks it off with jazzy, proggy guitars and complex drum textures that unfold over neck-breaking riffs. “Whopner” opts for a slow build as guitars crawl over tom-tom smacks, morphing into a cosmic haze, and later, wandering keyboard lines. Volto sometimes bring the heavy right away with beefy guitars (“BHP,” “Tocino”), but other times ride on unshackled percussion and spacey sonics (“I’m Calm Now”) for a more fantastical journey.
Incitare will be out on iTunes tomorrow and everywhere else on August 6th. Preorders are available here. Volto also kick off a tour tomorrow with an album release party at the Cha Cha Lounge in Los Angeles, followed by a show on July 27th at the Baked Potato in Studio City, California.
