Dead Weather Return With ‘Open Up’
The Dead Weather are back with a terrifying new single called “Open Up (That’s Enough).” The supergroup of Jack White, the Kills’ Alison Mosshart, Queens of the Stone Age’s Dead Fertita and the Raconteurs’ Jack Lawrence mailed out the track as a 7″ single, with “Rough Detective” on the B-side, as part of the Third Man Records’ Vault subscription series.

“‘Open Up (That’s Enough)’ and ‘Rough Detective’ are unlike anything else the band has ever done and are both ample reminders of the ferocity of this motley collection of low-lifes, grifters and ne’er-do-wells,” Third Man declared in October when it broke the news of impending new tunes. “These songs are not throw-aways. These songs are not demos. These songs are not outtakes.” The Dead Weather plan to record and release more of these two-song sets until 2015, when they’ll put out a full album comprising the singles and new album-only tracks.

The new work would mark the band’s third album together, and their first since 2010’s Sea of Cowards. Back in February, Jack White spoke with Rolling Stone about how the Dead Weather projects fit into the band members’ various commitments. “Our things pick their place for us. We don’t really sit down and pick them,” he said. “The Kills make a record or Queens of the Stone Age make a record, I make a record, and it all falls into place, you know? We didn’t know we were going to do two Dead Weather records in a row. We didn’t have any plan at all. We were just going to record a seven-inch, and it keeps going, and we make two albums’ worth of material.”
