David Lynch Chases ‘The Big Dream’ in Remix – Premiere
Eccentric filmmaker David Lynch is set to release an expanded digital version of his second album, The Big Dream, on December 16th. Ahead of his revisiting of that experimental work – which also gets a UK-only physical release on January 27th – Lynch offers a revamped version of the offbeat but charming title track, remixed by Venetian Snares.
Lynch’s producer, Dean Hurley, describes the song as “music for the end crawl of a bootlegged sci-fi/horror film that you borrowed from your friend’s older brother and caused you to realize for the first time that you were actually scared in broad daylight.” Lynch’s U.S. label, Sacred Bones, is also releasing a limited edition 12-inch single.

The deluxe album – which followed up 2011’s Crazy Clown Time and was originally released in July – includes bonus remixes by Bastille, Hot Since 82 and Bjorn Yttling. Two previously unreleased songs, “And Light Shines” and “Bad the John Boy,” are also incorporated. A Super Deluxe version of the box set, limited to just 500 copies, can be pre-ordered here.
The Big Dream features two singles – “I’m Waiting Here,” a collaboration with Lykke Li and the double A-side “Are You Sure”/”Star Dream Girl” – as well as an interpretation of Bob Dylan’s “The Ballad of Hollis Brown.” Aside from his own musical pursuits, Lynch returned to film this year to direct Nine Inch Nails’ music video for “Came Back Haunted,” which came with an epileptic seizure warning.
