Vampire Weekend Post New Song ‘Ya Hey’
Vampire Weekend have posted a lyric video for their new song “Ya Hey,” which scrolls lyrics across the screen while people spray bottles of champagne behind them. “America don’t love you / So I could never love you / In spite of everything,” frontman Ezra Koenig sings over a building drum march, piano arpeggios and squeaky voice manipulations. Popping open the bubbly is usually a sign of celebration, but with the gray atmosphere, slow motion and smashed bottles, the vibe isn’t as joyous. Still, the band doesn’t let the melancholy overtake them. “I can’t help but feel that I made some mistake,” sings Koenig. “But I let it go.”
Vampire Weekend on Their Adventurous New Album
Modern Vampires of the City will be out May 14th, and Vampire Weekend will play Saturday Night Live on May 11th. “Things that we might have found boring in the past, we’ve started to find more fresh,” Koenig told Rolling Stone in January regarding the new album. “This record has more piano and acoustic guitar and organ. But at the same time, that means we needed to find ways to flip it.”
