!!! Go for a Hotel Elevator Ride in ‘Californiyeah’ – Premiere
Filmed on the streets of Japan, in a hotel elevator and onstage, the video for !!!’s “Californiyeah” is as exuberant as the song itself is contagious. Extracted from the dance-punk outfit’s fifth and latest album, THR!!!ER, one can’t help but sympathize as frontman Nic Offer pledges love for his home state (California, naturally) and shares his frustration with the idea that its bars close at 2 a.m.
!!! Catch Air Onstage in Brooklyn
“The clip was shot in an hour or so by our sound guy Jamie Harley,” Offer tells Rolling Stone. “We rode the glass elevator in our Tokyo hotel singing along to our new hit ‘Californiyeah’ ’til we were busted by the authorities, Eighties-video style. Those are 100 percent real Japanese hotel rent-a-pigs busting [guitarist] Mario [Andreoni] . . . like our own little episode of Bad Boys. We couldn’t believe our luck. Pure video magic.”
Although the band intends to return to Tokyo this November, it’s unclear if more video shenanigans will ensue. In the meantime, and on the heels of its FYF Fest appearance yesterday in L.A., !!! will embark on a short tour of the western U.S. at the Knitting Factory in Reno, Nevada, this week.
