Justin Bieber, R. Kelly Make Racy Promises on ‘PYD’
Pop music just can’t get enough of R. Kelly lately: Justin Bieber tapped the Chicago R&B singer for his new song “PYD,” a collaboration that follows fast on the heels of Kelly’s I-feel-you-girl contribution to Lady Gaga‘s “Do What U Want.”
Bieber’s song, the latest in his ongoing “Music Mondays” series of track releases, is an angst-y, sexed-up number that finds the 19-year-old singer moaning “I’m gonna put you down,” over a minimal electronic beat and a low-key wash of synthesizers. Kelly comes in about halfway through, offering some CSI-style insights about a woman whose “body ain’t been touched the right way.”
The Evolution of Justin Bieber
“PYD” is the seventh entry in the “Music Mondays” series, which Bieber began with “Heartbreaker” on October 7th and will continue through mid-December (last week’s entry, “All Bad,” was another slow jam). The songs aren’t all the singer has been up to lately: his tour of South American has proven occasionally inflammatory, following accusations he spray-painted graffiti on a wall in Rio de Janeiro and that he debased the flag of Argentina during a performance in Buenos Aires. Bieber was also filmed sleeping in Brazil by a woman in his hotel room, and drew boos from an audience in Argentina when he cut short a concert over what he said was food poisoning.
As for Kelly, in addition to his Gaga collaboration (which he reprised last weekend when Gaga hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live), the singer teamed up with Phoenix earlier this year for a performance at Coachella and a remix of the French band’s song “Trying to Be Cool.” He also contributed with Pharrell to a remix of Bruno Mars’ “Gorilla.” Kelly will release his new album, Black Panties, on December 10th.
