Paul McCartney Serves Up Schoolhouse Rock
Last week, Paul McCartney threw an impromptu rock & roll assembly at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria, Queens, to celebrate the release of his new record, New (out this week). McCartney regaled students and teachers – and even school founder Tony Bennett – with a 90-minute performance of Beatles, Wings and solo cuts, while answering several students’ questions as well.
The entire set was streamed on Yahoo last night, but in case you missed it, now you can check out a handful of clips from the show, including a performance of “New,” which had the packed auditorium bopping and clapping along.

Over at Yahoo, you can also watch McCartney and Co. kick up the volume for New cut, “Save Us” as well as a rendition of Wings’ “Band on the Run” – and don’t worry, for every befuddled, slightly bored millennial seen in the crowd, there’s an equally exuberant one who happens to a know all the words to a song that came out two decades before their birth.
Just 24 hours after his master class at the Frank Sinatra School, McCartney and his band set up shop in Times Square for another surprise gig, performing four tracks off New to an afternoon crowd of dedicated superfans, as well as a few unsuspecting pedestrians. McCartney also took over a chunk of Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles last month when he performed free concert as part of an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
